Scorsese and DiCaprio to Reunite for New Horror Film

Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese has confirmed his next directorial project will be a film adaptation of the horror novel “What Happens at Night.” The film is set to reunite him with his long-time collaborator, Leonardo DiCaprio, who will star alongside Jennifer Lawrence in her first project with the renowned director.

The announcement reveals that Apple Original Films, which previously worked with Scorsese and DiCaprio on the 2023 hit “Killers of the Flower Moon,” is in negotiations with Studiocanal to co-finance and produce the feature. Studiocanal had secured the rights to the novel by author Peter Cameron. Filming is tentatively scheduled to begin in January 2026.

An Eerie Premise
The story centres on a married American couple who travel to a quiet, desolate European town with the aim of adopting a child. Their journey takes a strange turn when they check into a vast, unsettlingly empty hotel. There, their lives become entangled with a host of mysterious figures, including an extravagant singer, a dissolute businessman, and a charismatic faith healer. Within the walls of the peculiar hotel, it becomes clear that nothing is as it seems. The project was reportedly chosen by DiCaprio from a number of potential films, including a Damien Chazelle-helmed biopic about the stunt performer Evel Knievel.

A Celebrated Partnership
This forthcoming film will mark the seventh major collaboration between Scorsese, 82, and DiCaprio, 50, a creative partnership that has spanned over two decades since their first film together, “Gangs of New York,” in 2002. While their professional relationship is well-established, this will be the first time Jennifer Lawrence, 35, has worked under Scorsese’s direction.

DiCaprio Promotes Current Film in Rare Interview
The news of this future collaboration comes as DiCaprio is currently promoting his latest film, “One Battle After Another,” which is due in cinemas on 26 September. The famously private actor made a rare on-screen appearance on the “Today” show alongside co-star Benicio del Toro to discuss the new action-packed feature. In the film, DiCaprio plays Bob, a “washed-up revolutionary who lives in a state of stoned paranoia, surviving off-grid with his spirited and self-reliant daughter.”

During the interview, del Toro recounted filming an intense car stunt with DiCaprio. “I was really driving, yeah,” the 58-year-old actor confirmed, adding praise for his co-star’s composure. “He’s a great driver, actually. Incredible. We did that loop 50 times.”

Life Away From the Spotlight
Despite his global fame, DiCaprio is known for shunning the spotlight, often pictured wearing a baseball cap and a medical mask in public. While he remains fiercely private, his extensive property portfolio frequently makes headlines. The actor recently listed a stunning beachfront home in Malibu for $23 million, four years after purchasing it for $13.75 million. The four-bedroom property, located on the Pacific Coast Highway, has also been placed on the rental market for a considerable $65,000 per month.

Meanwhile, audiences can look forward to seeing both stars on the big screen this autumn. DiCaprio’s “One Battle After Another” is released on 25 September 2025, followed by Lawrence’s latest film, “Die My Love,” on 13 November 2025.
