New ‘You Were Never Really Here’ Trailer: Joaquin Phoenix & His Hammer Get Brutal

A new UK trailer has arrived for You Were Never Really Here, the upcoming thriller-drama that finds Joaquin Phoenix taking down very bad people… with a hammer, among other things.

We’re pumped for this one. Phoenix took home Best Actor at Cannes last year for this role, playing a traumatised veteran who’s made it his job to find missing girls. Things start spiraling fast when his latest job doesn’t go according to plan.

This marks the fourth film for writer-director Lynne Ramsay, who hasn’t made a film since 2011’s We Need to Talk About Kevin. As with the previous trailers, the new marketing piece shows off what looks like one tough-as-hell thriller with Phoenix in top form. Early reviews have been very strong. Fingers crossed.

You Were Never Really Here, also starring Ekaterina Samsonov, Alessandro Nivola, Alex Manette, John Doman, and Judith Roberts, will open in the UK on March 9 and hits the US on April 6.

Official synopsis for You Were Never Really Here:

A traumatised veteran, unafraid of violence, tracks down missing girls for a living. When a job spins out of control, Joe’s nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what may be his death trip or his awakening.
