Sony has dropped the first trailer for Venom, the upcoming film that finds Tom Hardy taking on the role of Spider-Man universe villain/anti-hero Eddie Brock.
In the comics, Venom, an alien symbiote, attaches itself to Spider-Man. Peter Parker manages to pull apart from it when he realises its true nature, leaving it in search of a new human host, which it finds in Eddie. Just what big changes this movie will make – since, you know, our current Spidey hasn’t had interaction with Venom… yet – remains to be seen.
As far as first teaser trailers go, the one below isn’t too bad, especially seeing as production only wrapped up a bit over a week ago. No actual Venom though (apart from a hint on his neck at the end there). Having Hardy, Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed as leads is promising; we’ll see if director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) and screenwriters Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, Kelly Marcel, and Will Beall can deliver.
Venom, also starring Scott Haze and Reid Scott, will open in Australia on October 4 and in the U.S. on October 5.
Sony’s official logline for Venom:
One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.
