20th Century Fox has unveiled a big new trailer for the highly anticipated musical The Greatest Showman, starring Hugh Jackman as American showman/businessman/politician P.T. Barnum.
It certainly looks like a grand picture; one crafted for a big-screen experience. Jackman’s proven himself to be quite the performer over the years, whether he’s belting out numbers on stage (The Boy from Oz), putting in exhausting-looking work in gritty thrillers (Prisoners), or making a certain mutant his own. Who better than him to take on this title role?
This marks the feature directorial debut for Aussie commercial director and visual effects artist Michael Gracey, whose credits include VFX work on Gregor Jordan’s Ned Kelly and the hitman mockumentary The Magician. He’s working from a script by Jenny Bicks (Sex and the City, Rio 2) & Oscar winner Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Beauty and the Beast) and collaborating with two-time Oscar nominated cinematographer Seamus McGarvey (Atonement, The Avengers).
The film’s also boasting a great cast, including Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, Zac Efron and Zendaya. Plus, the songs have been crafted by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who won Oscars for their work on La La Land. Bring it on.
Watch out for the curtains to open on Christmas Day in the US and Boxing Day in Australia.
Inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business & tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.
