Some bad news for those who were hoping to see what a Mel Gibson-directed DCEU movie would look like.
It appears that Warner Bros. may be close to choosing who they want sitting in the director’s chair for Suicide Squad 2, the follow-up to last year’s DC film starring Margot Robbie and Will Smith. As per Deadline, Jaume Collet-Serra, known for hits Orphan, Non-Stop and last year’s The Shallows, is now the frontrunner choice to helm the high-profile picture.
Word broke in February that the studio may be looking at Braveheart and Hacksaw Ridge helmer Mel Gibson to direct, but it’s been pretty quiet on that front since. Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, Safe House director Daniel Espinosa and Warm Bodies director Jonathan Levine were other names being mentioned.
Suicide Squad wasn’t very well received by critics and audience reception was mixed at best, but money speaks, and the film spoke to the tune of $US745.6 million from a budget of $US175 million.
Collet-Serra will soon be directing Waco, a drama that tells of the 51-day standoff between a cult, the FBI and Texas law enforcement that ended with 76 deaths in ’93.
We’ll let you know as soon as Collet-Serra, or any other director, is locked in.
