Netflix has dropped the trailer for Star Trek: Discovery, a new chapter set around ten years before the events that took place in the original series.

The upcoming sci-fi series follows First Officer Michael Burnham, played by Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), and the crew of the Discovery as they encounter new ships, worlds and villains, while the threat of war looms.

The trailer’s been receiving mightily mixed reactions online so far. Although it’s set before even the original series, it certainly seems to be more in line with the J.J. Abrams Star Trek era. Those after something more like the Star Trek TV shows of yore may find themselves wanting, although it’s hard to completely gather just what we’re in for from this first trailer. We’ll see.

Netflix Australia and New Zealand will release each episode 24 hours after it airs on US network CBS. Season one of Star Trek: Discovery, which also stars Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones, Shaza Latif, Clare McConnell, Kenneth Mitchell, Maulik Pancholy, Anthony Rapp, Damon Runyan, Terry Serpico, and Jason Isaacs, will hold 15 episodes, up from the previously announced 13.

Set roughly ten years before the events of the original series, Star Trek: Discovery shows a never before seen era that shaped Federation history. First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) encounters new ships, worlds and villains as the threat of war looms.
