Check out the trailer for what looks like one of the year’s most original films.
Written and directed by rapper/music producer turned filmmaker Boots Riley, Sorry to Bother You is set in an alternate present-day version of Oakland and follows telemarketer Cassius Green (Lakeith Stanfield), who is propelled him into a macabre universe when he discovers a magical key to professional success.
Yeah, that logline doesn’t really do what’s on offer below justice. Best watch it for yourself. Let’s just say that it’s great to see Stanfield leading a film after fantastic turns in Atlanta and Get Out, there’s a great supporting cast here that includes Tessa Thompson, Armie Hammer, Patton Oswalt, Steven Yeun, Terry Crews, David Cros and Danny Glover, and there appears to be commentary and creativity in abundance.
Sorry to Bother You, also starring Omari Hardwick, Marcella Bragio,Tom Woodruff Jr., Kate Berlant, Jermaine Fowler, Robert Longstreet and Teresa Navarro, is scheduled to open in the U.S. on July 6.
