Okay, this looks nuts… in a good way.
Oh, plot-wise, if you really care about that sort of thing here, this big-screen adaptation of the classic 1980s video game has something to do with a primatologist who makes it his mission to find an antidote and stop the genetically-modified animals – including George, the Gorilla he’s had a bond with for years – now destroying the city. Something like that. Anyway, a giant croc bites down on an airborne aircraft!
Of course, there’s a chance this could be an expensive, cheesy-as-hell turd, but so far the trailers have shown off a self-aware, wildly entertaining tone, decent visual effects, and Johnson in full-fun mode. Fingers crossed this is the kind of ‘f*ck yeah!’, popcorn-shoveling blockbuster that’s just right for a night at the movies with buddies.
Rampage, also starring Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, Joe Manganiello and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, among others, will be arriving in Australia on April 12 and hits the US on April 20.
Official synopsis for Rampage:
Primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.
