The titular character has been cast in The Nun, the upcoming spinoff to James Wan‘s successful horror sequel The Conjuring 2.

In an interesting bit of casting news, it turns out that Taissa Farmiga (pictured below), who’s actually the sister of Conjuring lead actress Vera Farmiga, will be taking on the role of the frightening nun that scared audiences in the sequel.

Deadline broke the news regarding Farmiga’s casting, reporting that the actress will be starring alongside Demián Bichir (The Hateful Eight, Alien: Covenant) in the film. Corin Hardy, known for the 2015 horror film The Hallow, will be directing from a screenplay written by Wan and Gary Dauberman (Annabelle, It).

The Conjuring franchise is showing no sign of slowing, and one needs to only look at the box office numbers to know why. The two Conjuring films and the spinoff film Annabelle have raked in $US895.1 million worldwide; all three cost a total $US66.5 million to make.

The Annabelle follow-up, Annabelle: Creation, will arrive in Australia on August 10 and hits the US on August 11. The Nun is scheduled to hit US screens on, wait for it, Friday the 13th, July 2018.
