Academy Award winner Kate Winslet is set to reunite with her Titanic director, James Cameron.

Winslet has joined the cast of Cameron’s Avatar sequels, reports Deadline. There’s no word on the size of Winslet’s role or whether she’ll be appearing in more than one of the four sci-fi sequels, but Cameron has revealed her character’s name.

“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career,” Cameron said in a statement. “I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”

1997’s Titanic earned 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and raked in a massive $US2.1 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of all time until Cameron’s Avatar surpassed it in 2009 with an astonishing $US2.7 billion draw.

The four Avatar sequels, coming to life with a collective record-breaking budget topping $US1 billion, officially entered production on September 25. The first sequel will hit US cinemas on 18 December 2020, followed by the third film on 17 December 2021, Avatar 4 on 20 December 2024 and Avatar 5 on 19 December 2025.

Winslet will next be seen alongside Idris Elba in the survival adventure The Mountain Between Us, which opens in the US on October 6 and arrives in Australia on October 12.
