Acclaimed thespians Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren are set to star together in The Good Liar, an upcoming drama from New Line Cinema.
Ian McKellen will be reuniting with director Bill Condon for the fourth time, following Gods and Monsters, Mr. Holmes and last year’s Beauty and the Beast (McKellen voiced majordomo-turned-enchanted-clock Cogsworth). Condon’s other credits include Dreamgirls, Kinsey and The Fifth Estate.
Based on the novel by Nicholas Searle, The Good Liar will find McKellen playing a career con artist who finds the perfect target: a well-off widow (Mirren). As she opens her home and life to him, he is surprised to find himself caring about her, turning what should be a cut-and-dry swindle into the most treacherous tightrope walk of his life.
The screenplay comes from Jeffrey Hatcher, who penned Condon’s Mr. Holmes as well as Casanova and The Duchess. Jack Morrisey is executive producing alongside Bron Creative’s Aaron L. Gilbert and Jason Cloth.
Mirren was recently seen in the horror film Winchester and has a number of projects in the pipeline, including Luc Besson thriller Anna, a role in anthology picture Berlin, I Love You, and Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
