Set to direct Hobbs and Shaw, which will find Johnson and Statham reprising their titular characters from Universal’s ultra-successful franchise, is John Wick co-director David Leitch. It was reported in February that Leitch was Universal’s frontrunner to direct the high-profile franchise entry.
This one’s going to need awesome action. We’re probably going to get it. Leitch, who also directed Atomic Blonde and is at the helm of the upcoming Deadpool 2, originally comes from the stunt side of things, with stunt-related credits on films like The Matrix Reloaded, The Bourne Ultimatum, 300, and V for Vendetta.
The announcement was made on social media:

Johnson recently spoke about his on-set beef with Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel and said that he was “not quite sure” if he would be joining Fast & Furious 9. “Right now I’m concentrating on making the spinoff [Hobbs and Shaw] as good as it can be,” Johnson said.
Hobbs and Shaw, which is rumoured to have Charlize Theron in talks to return as villainess Cipher, is currently scheduled to hit US cinemas on July 26, 2019. Stay tuned as this one comes together.
