Netflix has dropped a behind-the-scenes featurette for 13 Reasons, the upcoming series based on the bestselling Y.A. books by Jay Asher.

The series follows Clay Jensen (played by Goosebumps and Don’t Breathe actor Dylan Minnette), a teen who returns home from school one day to find tapes from Hannah (Aussie up-and-comer Katherine Langford), a classmate and crush that took her own life two weeks earlier. The tapes have Hannah explaining why she ended her own life, with each tape talking about a different person.

The marketing piece below features interview snippets with cast members and author Asher discussing what the show is about and the heavy themes it touches on, such as teen suicide.

“I hope that with this story that more people will A, talk about the issues that we’re presenting, but B, that they will also understand that there is life after whatever their feeling,” Langford says in the featurette. “There is life after high school, there is life after, there is life after that exam, there is life after that party or that photo or, you know, that boy. There’s always going to be more.”

The directing team here includes Tom McCarthy, who helmed the Best Picture-winning Spotlight; Carl Franklin, known for High Crimes, Out of Time and episodes of House of Cards; and Gregg Araki, whose works include The Doom Generation, Mysterious Skin and White Bird in a Blizzard. The executive producing team includes McCarthy and singer/actress Selena Gomez.

All 13 episodes of 13 Reasons Why, also starring Kate Walsh, Brain D’Arcy James, Derek Luke, Brandon Flynn, Justin Prentice, Alisha Boe, Christian Navarro, and Tommy Dorfman, will hit Netflix on March 31.
