300: Rise Of An Empire, the sequel to Zack Snyder’s 300, is expected to tell the story of Greek General Themistocles, who lead Athens against Persian invaders in a battle that occurred simultaneously with the Battle of Thermopylae (the battle from 300).

The film will star Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes with Sullivan Stapleton as General Themistocles and Eva Green as Artemisia. Other stars include Hans Matheson, Lena Headey, Igal Naor, Mark Killeen, Callan Mulvey, Andrew Tiernan and Jack O’Connell.

Interesting that Noam Murro has been chosen to direct this sequel seeing as he doesn’t have many films under his belt. The only other feature film he has directed is Smart People, a 2008 drama-comedy starring Dennis Quaid.

The film is set to be released on 1 August 2013, but it is rumoured to change.
